SPEAKER:
Malathi Srinivasan, MD, FACP
(Professor of Medicine, University of California, Davis School of Medicine)

In this seminar, Dr. Srinivasan will take the audience through three distinct ways of conducting small group learning. Each of these active learning formats varying in the degree of advanced preparation by the learner, and the degree of guidance during the seminar by the faculty. By the end of this seminar, participants will have a clear understanding of the differences between these teaching method and how to implement these techniques within their professional schools . The 85th Seminar

“Admissions as a Curricular Tool: The Utility and Limits of Multiple Mini Interviews in Medical School Admissions”
SPEAKER:
Malathi Srinivasan, MD, FACP
(Professor of Medicine, University of California, Davis School of Medicine)
DATE: 21.12.2015
SUMMARY:
Who you admit into your university has profound impact upon the
resources you need to train your learners, and the type of “final product” who will leave. During admissions, how much effort should you place in identifying the traits which are desirable in a practicing physician – such as communication skills, emotional intelligence or teamwork? To what extent can these skills be taught? A multiple mini interview (MMI) is a series of 10 very short encounters focusing on interpersonal skills and problem-solving, that occurs during the medical school admissions/interview process. In this session, we will explore sentinel issues in medical school admissions, and consider the role of the MMI in helping to shape the physician graduate characteristics of your medical school class.
